Technology
Technology is a tool that is used across areas of our lives, from
communication devices to educational tools. Technology is used in
simple activities to complicated medical procedures. Our MASTER Seminar course on technology will teach the applications of Augmented Reality,
Virtual Reality, and Medical Technology.
Augmented Reality
“Our world is built on technology, so it is vital that we understand what it is and how to use it. This course will teach you about different types of technology that you are probably familiar with, and some that you may encounter in the future.”

Week 1
Schedule
In Week 1, we will explore augmented reality. Augmented reality is used in healthcare, construction & maintenance, exterior & interior design, transportation & navigation, education, entertainment, tourism, and retail. We will experiment with augmented reality in the Ikea “Place” App which allows you to try furniture in your room or home through the use of augmented reality. The Ikea “Place” App is one example of the augmented reality apps that allow consumers to try furniture, clothes, shoes, glasses, makeup, and more.
Week 2
In Week 2, we will examine the complexity of virtual reality. We will be teaching what it is and describe examples of it that the students will be familiar with. We will finish with a Google Cardboard activity where you can experience anything from riding a roller coaster to visiting a historical site.
Week 3 & 4
In Weeks 3 & 4, we will explore the diversity of medical technology. We will experiment with a variety of medical scans, including X-Rays, CT/CAT scans, MRI scans, PET scans, and Ultrasounds. We will also perform a medical procedure as our final project.
